Have you ever gotten totally stoned but still felt a thirst for visually stimulating knowledge? Documentaries especially about nature and science with lots of trippy hypnotic visuals are something everyone can get behind. If you want to go a little deeper than the classics like Planet Earth and Cosmos here are 7 documentaries you can find on Netflix to put on after you blaze up.

 

1.  My Octopus Teacher (2020)

This a nature documentary with a twist you’ll watch as a documentarian going through a midlife crisis befriends an octopus on the shores of Cape Town South Africa. The beautiful scenery of the underwater kelp forests makes a gorgeous backdrop as your mind is blown watching the Octopus warm up to and eventually await the arrival of his lonely human friend. This film won the Oscar for best documentary in 2020 and after you take a hit of a freshly rolled blunt you’ll be as confused but your heart will be warmed. 

 

2. High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America (2021)

Best have your munchies on standby for this one. High on the Hog is a limited Netflix docuseries exploring the African, and African American roots of dishes from all over the United States. Stunning shots of mouthwatering food are interspersed with testimony about the history and culture of African food in the US along with breathtaking landscapes of the American south. Be prepared to order some takeout after. 

 

3. Black Holes: The Edge of All We Know (2020)

I can’t be the only one who likes to get some existential dread when I’ve just gotten baked. Few things in the known universe inspire more discomfort than Black Holes, watching this with a bong on standby will let your brain run wild with the question “what if I touched it just a little bit?” or “Can you hotbox a spacesuit?”.

 

4. Bob Ross: Happy Accident, Betrayal, and Greed (2021)

Bob Ross has been entertaining a totally cooked audience for decades and if you never puff puff painted then you’re missing out but if you’re looking for insight into the mind of the most relaxed figure on public television this is your best bet. Even when he’s in crisis there's something comforting about Bob Ross’ aura. While it's not gonna put you to blissful sleep like The Joy of Painting will but it will get blackholes off of your mind. 

 

5. The Sparks Brothers (2021)

Sparks is a pretty legendary American pop-rock band and if you want some jams with your movie and joint this will not disappoint. Directed by the equally legendary Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, Shaun of the Dead) This doc will keep you stimulated as it switches between interviews, jam sessions and animated stories about the brothers spark. 6. Cunk On Earth (2023)

If you’ve ever been stoned and thought “I could make a documentary” this is the one for you. Cunk walks through the entire history of human civilization in interviews with scholars and historians with the grace and elegance of a pothead who just felt a 50-milligram edible kick in.
