5 Weed Strains and Movies to Match

At the end of a long work week, nothing beats getting high and watching a bro comedy on a Friday night. Or maybe it’s a Tuesday afternoon and you feel like sparking up. Either way, we’ll save you an hour of scrolling through Netflix and match 5 of the most popular cannabis strains with your favorite movies. Oh and I’m going to be ranking the movies in Mountain Dews. Let’s get started!

5. Original Glue (Hybrid; 20% THC)

Original Glue, aka Gorilla Glue or GG4, is by far one of my favorite strains. It’s a sticky strain that gives you an intense body high and gets its name from its ability to make you feel “glued” to your couch. And to watch this next movie… you’ll need something that prevents you from getting up and leaving the room.

BASEketball (1998) is one of those movies you jokingly recommend watching before your friend who’s never watched it before decides it looks funny and puts it on. Everything about this movie, from the general plot to the pacing is horrible and poorly crafted, which makes it the perfect movie for this list! Get high, put this on, and put the TV remote on the other side of the room so you’re not tempted to change it. This gets 1 Dew.

4. Blue Dream (Sativa-Dominant Hybrid; 18% THC)

When I was younger, Blue Dream was this weird mystical strain that everyone knew about but only few had tried. Even though you can find it in most dispensaries these days, it’s retained its legendary status, which makes it an appropriate pairing for an equally legendary stoner epic.

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006) is like the Beowulf of Jack Black movies. It’s an epic to remember as Jack Black battles an evil demon with his friend and bandmate. What more could you ask for? This one gets 4.5 Dews.

3. Pineapple Express

Do I need to explain this one? Is this cheating? 3 Dews.

2. OG Kush (Hybrid; 18% THC)

This is a classic strain that gives you both a head high and body high. And a classic strain calls for a classic stoner movie.

I could watch Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle 100 times and not get tired of it. It’s one of the most relatable stoner flicks ever made. I mean, who hasn’t gotten high and eaten an upsetting amount of White Castle? Harold and Kumar tells the story of our brave toking forefathers, who needed to venture out into the dark and journey to White Castle aback a jaguar instead of ordering a Crave Case on DoorDash. If you haven’t seen this movie, grab a joint and settle in for the night. This gets 4.7 Dews.

1. Durban Poison (Sativa; 19%)

Speaking of classics, this last one is an old strain dating back to the 70s. And that calls for another classic movie.

Airplane! (1980) is possibly one of my favorite movies of all time. And I’m convinced it’s where everyone’s dad got his sense of humor. This is a classic full of painful puns, miscommunications, and sweaty pilots. It’s a must watch and I’ve got to give it 5 Dews.
