Stay High on Your Camping Trip: 7 Tips for Enjoying Marijuana to the Fullest
With the summertime rolling around, lots of us are going to want to take a weekend trip where we sacrifice our modern luxuries like internet, bathrooms, showers, beds, and running water to go live in the woods and sleep on the cold hard ground for a couple nights. If you’re one of those people and you’re on this website, I’m sure you’ll want to make the most of your experience with a little bit of cannabis. Getting high in nature is the ultimate way to do it, so grab some buds and some bud, lace up your boots, and read my listicle!
1. Follow the rules and regulations of wherever you are
Wherever you decide to go camping, make sure you’re following the local rules and regulations regarding cannabis use. Never use cannabis when it is illegal or frowned upon.
2. Safety First!
Whether you’re reserving a campground at a state park or backpacking through the wilderness, you’re going to want to make sure that you’ve got all your bases covered before you light up. Make sure your food is put away (except for s’mores and other munchies), your fire is lit, and you have plenty of water nearby. Oh, and make sure your tent is set up before you send yourself into the ether.
3. ABP: Always be prepared
Assuming you’ll be sparking up once it’s dark out, you’re going to want to roll your joints and/or blunts beforehand. Nothing is worse than having to roll a J on your lap with a flashlight nestled between your chin and chest.
And even though smoking a joint while sitting around the campfire might be the most aesthetically pleasing way to do it, you’re always going to want to factor in convenience. If you don’t want to roll a dozen joints beforehand, you can always bring along a vape pen or a bag of your favorite edibles. These alternatives can also be helpful if you’re camping on a beach or other open area where it can get windy at night.
4. Know your surroundings
You should be doing this anyway, but you’ll want to make sure you know everything around your campsite. Besides figuring out where the bathroom and water spigot are, remember that camping is often a family activity, so you’ll want to make sure no kids or families are in the surrounding campsites! That leads us to our next tip:
5. Be courteous, and maybe just isolate yourself
Sometimes it’s hard for us to remember that not everyone loves cannabis as much as we do. If you plan on smoking during your camping trip, make sure you reserve a campsite that’s a bit isolated. You can usually find one that’s at the end of a loop or in some ways detached from the rest of the campground. Those are generally your best bet, where you’re unlikely to disturb anyone!
6. Get your mind high, keep your body low!
Look, we all love smoking in nature, surrounded by beautiful scenery, plenty of foliage, the sounds of chirping birds, and blood-thirsty ticks, but if you’re thinking about lighting your joint at the top of a mountain halfway through your hike, you might want to think again. First off, ask yourself whether you’ve ever been stoned and wanted to finish a hike down a steep mountain.
Second, if you’re at a really high altitude, smoking can be dangerous. Higher altitudes make your body work a lot harder, and smoking might cause some serious complications. Save your weed for a post-hike cyph and take the time you have at the top of that mountain to rehydrate and have a snack.
7. Clean up after yourself
If you’re smoking a joint or blunt at your campsite, don’t just throw your roaches on the ground. Either toss them into the firepot when you’re finished, throw them in the trash, or pack them out. Enjoying your high out in nature is the best way to do it – but remember to be respectful of that nature!
