Building the Ultimate Stoner Kit: 6 Essential Items You Need

One of my favorite parts about being a stoner is building a collection of fun and practical accessories to store, grind and smoke my weed. Here are the top 6 most important items as you assemble your own kit.

1. Glassware

The first thing you need after you’ve got some fresh sticky is a way to light it up. If you're like me and suck at rolling joints then go to your local smoke shop and pick up a spoon pipe or bowl. The bowl is among the most convenient and classic ways to smoke, they are cheap, available everywhere, and usually with lots of fun options to pick so you can get the one that speaks to you.

2. Grinder

In my opinion, this might be the single most important item in your kit if you’re gonna spend big money on any one item here. This is the one to do it on. While you can always pick apart your weed by hand in a pinch or use some homebrew methods like a plastic baggie and meat tenderizer (never works as well as you think it will by the way) nothing beats getting a nice lush pile of perfectly ground bud. Finely ground weed is ideal to make sure your joints and blunts burn evenly, I also use small pipe screens in my bong and bowl to keep the fine weed bits from going straight into your mouth. The best part of having a nice 4 piece grinder is watching your kief stash grow over time. Kief is the ultra-fine pollen-like substance on weed that is very high in THC, a nice grinder will collect all of this stoner gold and store it until you're ready to top a bowl or joint with it for an extra kick. I bought a Space Case grinder that lasted me about 8 years before the teeth started to dull so highly recommended but they have gotten quite expensive recently.

3. 510 Thread Batteries

These things are truly the bane of my existence, but they are important nonetheless. The 510 thread is the name for the mostly universal battery you need in order to hit vape cartridges, you can pick up the basic ‘stick’ version in most dispensaries or smokeshops for $10-$20 however in my experience they almost always break down within the year forcing you to get another. The best I’ve found is the Sirius Battery, USB charger, 3 heat levels with obvious indicators, and long battery life.

4. Rolling Tray

If you smoke a lot of joints or blunts you’re going to want a rolling tray to help you keep your bud where you can find it, constantly sweeping the table for falling leaves is fine up until you start getting crumbs in your joint. Finding the perfect rolling tray requires patience if you don’t want to be the 100th guy with a stoned Rick and Morty tray but I dont mind the look of the classic Raw trays.

5. Ashtray

No one wants to be the gross stoner with ash stains all over the place so save your couch and buy an ashtray. Buying an ashtray was a big moment in my life because it meant I finally lived somewhere I could smoke a joint indoors without bothering anyone so I took my time in finding the perfect one. I have always really liked the look of vintage or secondhand ashtrays mine is from Etsy and came with a story about an Irish girl stealing it from the local pub however, I have to give credit to Cannabis Professor collaborator Sadie Spliff who has me beat with her artisan pottery setup.

6. Stash Box

Once you’ve got all your tools and accessories the only thing left is somewhere to keep them all together and organized, enter the stash box. This is really where your stoner personality comes on display since anything can be a stash box and you can get really creative. My first box was an old-school cigar wooden cigar box this is an easy and classy choice and you might be able to find one in your grandpa's stuff or at a local thrift store. If you’re looking for discretion there are all kinds of smell-proof containers disguised as coke cans or tissue boxes to keep your weed out of view from nosy narcs. For the past few years, I’ve enjoyed this simple wooden lock box from Hakuna Supplies, looks great on the shelf, has enough space for all my supplies, and is impressively durable.
