5 Productive Activities to Enhance Your Workday While High

Every once in a while, we have a day where there are no impending deadlines and you have some time for yourself. Perhaps it’s getting close to lunchtime and you just remembered you have a roach in your car from that session last weekend or an edible that you forgot was in your backpack. Here at the Cannabis Professor, we do not encourage or discourage the use of marijuana during work hours -- but if you’re at home and it’s an appropriate time to get a little high, here are 5 productive activities to enhance your workday while high.

1.Creative Problem-Solving Sessions

There’s an episode in Mad Men where all the copywriters are in the creative room coming up with an ad for Heinz and Don Draper walks into the room stating he could “smell creativity.” Although most bosses would not accept the use of marijuana during work hours, marijuana does have the effect of enhancing our creativity. The best time to use this creative tool is at the beginning stages of a project or solving a long-standing issue with a project that seems to have no solution in sight. If you have access to a whiteboard, we recommend using it given its potential to enhance the visualization of your work. This is your opportunity to think from different perspectives, jot down potential ideas, and make mind maps.

2.Deep Focus Tasks

Sometimes we have a task that requires us to dive in and stay focused for a couple of hours -- and if it’s a Friday before a three-day weekend, there’s not much motivation left to get us over the finish line. For some of us, being under the influence of Mary Jay will increase our focus and concentration which can help us get over the slow workday rhythm. Especially if the work is complex or detail oriented, this may be the solution to retain your focus and have some fun. Types of projects that would be best suited, but are not limited to, are analytical work, data analysis, or research.

3. Engage in Reflective Work

“Ugggggghhhhhhhhhhh,” is the sound of every employee receiving an email from HR about filling out performance reviews. Although we all understand the benefits of performance reviews (their usefulness on the other hand is dependent on the quality of your HR department and company), it’s tough to look back at your work and the work of others for evaluation. The beauty behind the magical green plant is its ability to help us reflect and truly evaluate the past with a sense of perspective and empathy for ourselves and our coworkers. Although the high state of mind may incline us to put 5s in everyone’s performance reviews (sorry HR professionals) it’s better than not doing it!

4. Enhance Collaborative Activities

Now, if you’re someone who normally doesn’t get high with other people or being high gives you a sense of social anxiety -- this may not be something you would like to do. HOWEVER, if you can handle your high with people and find that you tend to be more positive, please continue reading. Ideally, we recommend this if you’re working from home.  Marijuana has the effect of making us empathetic, which is a good quality to have in every workplace. Engage in brainstorming sessions, creative meetings, or collaborative problem-solving activities with your colleagues to either solve the toughest of problems or innovate new ideas. If you’re not the only stoner in the company AND you’re comfortable with your coworkers, make it a sesh WITH the intention of getting something done. But hey, if goofing off and pulling a prank on the boss will enhance collaborative activities, just don’t say Cannabis Professor told ya!

5.Personal Development and Learning

Depending on your company, having the opportunity for personal development is one of the best things that your employer could provide. Whether they have allotted time in your benefits package or it’s based on workload, being high will help you have a potentially deep and pleasurable experience. Some activities to engage in are: reading industry-related articles, company updates, and researching online skill or knowledge courses.

Conclusion: We at the Cannabis Professor aren’t telling you to get high while working -- but if it’s a slow work day from home, we understand. There are productive activities to do at work while you’re high that can enhance your creativity, provide a different perspective, or make it a pleasurable experience. Just remember to act appropriately and use your best judgment when interacting with people at work.
